Easy guitar lesson - is there such a thing?

Whenever you are trying to progress faster with your musical skills, it is advisable that you learn not only while you practice in front of your tutor (it is really not enough), but also that you practice at home, preferably everyday. You don’t need to practice for hours, if you don’t have time or your fingers hurt after playing for 20 minutes or so. It is enough to play 20 minutes, but regularly. The more regular and longer is your practice the better will be your progress. It is no coincident that the saying “the practice makes champions” is used all over the world (with slight variations).

Review the Basics

The most important method of getting the most out of your guitar lesson happens to be reviewing the basics regularly. That means that you must be able to know which "blue" notes to play in particular progressions as well as the right rhythmic patterns so that you can properly begin to immerse yourself into the blues experience. Blues guitar must also be played with the right emotions apart from having the right tonality.

Be Patient

In order to get the most out of your lesson, you must also have the patience. There are only few people on this planet that were born with great musical talent like Mozart or Beethoven. Everybody else has to learn. You learn by practicing and you cannot expect to play like Eric Clapton within a week. This just isn’t how things work on this planet. Unfortunately, many people seem to miss that simple fact. If you are patient, then you can focus better. When you have a proper focus, things really move along. Only with proper focus, practice, and patience you will learn to play the blues properly. Rushing the lessons and skipping over some important guidelines won't prove beneficial for you in the long run. I cannot stress it enough, be patient with your lessons and you'll realize that taking it slow is better for you.

Listen To Blues Music

Another strategy that might prove beneficial to your progress is to listen to blues music as often as you can (especially to blues guitar, as this is the instrument of your choice). In other words, try to immerse yourself with all things concerning the blues. This way you get the feel of the music faster and you will be able to progress to more advanced levels. You'll begin to have a deeper sense of how to use those guitar lessons simply because you're hearing them being played out as an example. Even though your lessons might contain just the basics, by being engulfed with blues even those basics are going to make a lot more sense and the practicing of blues licks/riffs will become easier and easier.

Jam With a Friend

Another great method on how to progress faster with your blues guitar lessons is to jam with someone (friends are the best for that purpose). Jamming is good for you since you'll learn how to put those scales and licks you have tried to master on your own into real use. You will also get a sense of what professional players feel during their concerts with others. You could also try to jam with some background blues music while incorporating your blues guitar lessons into it (as long as you know the chords).

Experiment on Your Own

For lots of people, experimenting on your own happens to be the best way to get the most out of your practice. It will also definitely boost your creativity to new heights since you're basically just trying out some licks through trial and error. It'll improve your ear and you can then better understand how to properly place those blue notes on certain progressions. You'll be surprised to find that you've developed your own style simply because you experimented regularly.
